Interview With Skies: Dominion Online Quarterfinalist

Beyond Awesome: What do you think was your toughest match?

Skies: That’s really hard to say as I had a lot of tough matches and I think especially hakase, LaLight and Honda are great players. The matches were very close and could’ve gone either way for sure.

Beyond AwesomeTell us a little about yourself. How old are you, where are you from, what do you do?

Skies: I’m 30, I live in Czech Republic and I’m a professional poker player.
Beyond Awesome: How did you get into Dominion?
Skies: I first played the base set around 2008 and loved the concept but didn’t consider it very interesting strategically. I got back into it around 2015 when I realized how deep it actually is, especially with all the later expansions added into it. It has pretty much all the traits that I love in games so I was instantly hooked!
Beyond Awesome: Most feared opponent on Dominion Online?
Skies: I’m not afraid of anyone, but I respect all the top rated players and love to get matched with them. It really motivates me to try and play my best when that happens. Burning Skull is someone who I remember playing quite a bit recently.
Beyond Awesome: What are your favorite and least favorite Dominion cards, and why?
Skies: I love KC, Bridge, Hunting Grounds… Anything that makes for a huge engine! There are no cards I really hate.
Beyond Awesome: What are your initial impressions of Nocturne, the newest Dominion expansion?
Skies: I very much enjoy new cards, new mechanics and the variety it brings to the game. So I’m quite thrilled for this one too!
Beyond Awesome: What advice do you have for Dominion players looking to get better?
Skies:  Focus on learning how to build an engine – when it’s time to get payload and when you need more draw or consistency. Learn from the best – watch them play ingame, on YouTube or on Twitch.
Beyond Awesome: Finally, who do you think is going to win the Championship?
Skies: Dan Brooks looks to be the strongest player on paper but I think we’ve come to a point where anyone has a good chance to make it. I know I’m not the favorite, but I’ll fight hard and I sure hope it will be me!
